The brief from IKEA was to create a store that met their brand standards and requirements, while also being mindful of the Australian market. Intermain worked closely with IKEA Global (IKEA’s Sweden-based design team) to adapt the design to suit the space, while also complying with Australian standards.
One of the biggest challenges Intermain faced was the short lead time. The store was to be completed in just four weeks, from the start of the fitout to the grand opening. Intermain overcame this challenge by reworking the existing elements within the space, which saved time and costs.
Taking into consideration IKEA Global’s environmental commitment, the store had to reflect a high sustainable output, inclusive of materiality, lighting, and overall design. Intermain incorporated a number of sustainable features into the design, such as the use of recycled materials and energy-efficient lighting, to meet these sustainability objectives.
The finished store is a modern and stylish space that meets the needs of both IKEA and Australian customers. It is the second Plan and Order Point store to open in Australia, and it is sure to be a popular destination for shoppers.
