Elevating building identity through thoughtful interior design
Intermain’s recent transformation of 2 Wentworth Street is a compelling showcase of design ingenuity and construction excellence. Intermain delivered a comprehensive refurbishment that redefined the building’s identity while enhancing tenant experience across multiple touchpoints.
The project centred on a complete overhaul of the base building areas, including the lobby, café, end-of-trip facilities, and three levels of speculative suites. Working in partnership with Studio Williams, Intermain’s design team breathed new life into the lobby—its third iteration—by seamlessly connecting the café, lobby, and street frontage. The space now features lush greenery, a striking central planter, and a large feature screen that invites visual art and events, all framed by a sophisticated palette of slate-look tiles, serpentine greens, and travertine accents.
Speculative suite flexibility and character across levels
On levels 3, 4, and 11, Intermain delivered speculative suites that balance flexibility with character. Level 11 boasts sweeping CBD views, a spacious breakout zone, and a distinctive metal mesh ceiling. Level 4 was cleverly divided into three tenancies, each with its own identity yet adaptable for future occupants. Meanwhile, Level 3 capitalises on its expansive balcony with a central business lounge and outdoor entertaining area, designed to foster collaboration and team culture.
Sustainability and smart construction in a live environment
Despite the challenges of working within an ageing, live site, Intermain’s staged top-down construction approach, meticulous service coordination, and responsive design adaptations ensured minimal disruption and maximum efficiency. Sustainability was also front of mind, with extensive reuse of existing materials, sensor tap upgrades, and LED lighting installations.
