Reinventing Maddocks’ workplace in Barton, ACT
Intermain delivered a staged office fitout for national law firm Maddocks in Barton, Canberra, transforming 1,795 square metres into a flexible, high-performing workplace. Delivered under an ECI agreement, the project translated the preliminary design into a fully coordinated and buildable outcome while maintaining business continuity within a live tenancy.
Translating a design-led concept into a fully realised workspace
Engaged early under an Early Contractor Involvement agreement, Intermain progressed the established concept design through detailed documentation, coordination and construction. The office fitout was tailored to the operational needs of a national law firm, with stakeholders located across Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra requiring consistent communication and careful programme management.
The project also continued Intermain’s prior works at the address, building on the successful delivery of the 40 Macquarie Street lobby upgrade. Steered by Intermain’s Canberra team, the project leveraged an integrated delivery approach and detailed knowledge of the building, allowing the design to progress efficiently across all stages.
Tailored office fitout design for the legal sector
Acoustic performance and flexibility were key drivers for the Maddocks workplace. Intermain refined layouts, services coordination and material selections to support a range of functions including meetings, collaboration, events and staff amenity.
Operable wall systems, acoustic panelling and soft finishes were integrated to allow breakout, meeting and function spaces to expand and contract while maintaining privacy and acoustic separation, supporting the needs of a busy legal office environment.
Delivered in a live environment
The fitout was delivered over a 23-week programme across two stages within a live tenancy. Intermain carefully planned staging, security protocols and night works to minimise disruption and maintain uninterrupted operations.
Early handovers and the live integration of communications and security systems were managed alongside evolving AV scope and ongoing cost engineering. Close collaboration with clients and stakeholders ensured the project was delivered smoothly, resulting in a refined, adaptable workplace aligned with the original design intent.
