The space combines polished concrete floors, sculptural forms, and warm, textured materials. A 70s-inspired palette evokes a sense of nostalgia while aligning with the studio’s forward-thinking approach. Delivered on time and within budget over a 14-week programme, the 1,500m² fitout features 141 open-plan workstations, three purpose-built theatres, quiet collaboration zones, meeting rooms, call booths, and executive offices. A café-style front-of-house and breakout area anchors the arrival experience, blending hospitality touches with informal meeting functionality for creative conversations.

Bridging 70s design with a digital era

The design intent was to capture not just where Fin Design + VFX is now, but where it began—honouring the studio’s creative roots while embracing its future. Rejecting the corporate “norm”, the fitout introduces a bold 70s aesthetic through sculptural forms, custom joinery, and bespoke upholstery.

Polished concrete floors are paired with heritage pieces reimagined for the new space, adding a heartbeat and nostalgic touch.

“This project was less about trends and more about ensuring the space reflected FIN as a brand. We subtly integrated features that nod to the industry through velvet theatrical curtains, playful lighting, and hand-painted custom signage,” says Devon Lofthouse, Intermain’s Senior Designer.

A Cipollino Ondulato marble splashback creates a striking, unexpected focal point in the kitchen—the heart of the studio.

Designing for creative and technical excellence

Meeting the technical demands of a VFX studio required close collaboration with operational teams to integrate critical infrastructure. High-performance servers, real-time workflows, and controlled lighting were seamlessly embedded to inspire creativity while supporting high-precision work. Weighted curtains for blackout and acoustic panelling ensure optimal conditions in colour-critical environments.

The result is more than a workspace. It’s a curated environment that supports collaboration, technical excellence, and creative innovation, enabling the team to deliver world-class visual effects in a studio that feels distinctly their own.

Nostalgia meets sustainability

Sustainability and adaptive reuse strategy was embedded throughout the process, continuing the narrative of history and legacy. Existing ergonomic chairs and lounges were salvaged, refurbished, and reupholstered to preserve items of significance to the client. Partnering with local suppliers supported a closed-loop sustainability strategy, including custom-coloured umbilicals by Klaro Industrial Design.
