Viva Leisure engaged Intermain to help create a serene, multi-functional wellness destination in Dickson that seamlessly integrated with the vibrant aesthetic of their GROUNDUP brand.

The resulting space, designed by Intermain’s inhouse design team, balances functionality with modern sophistication, incorporating natural light, privacy, and state-of-the-art facilities to attract members and casual visitors alike. Intermain’s ACT team brought this vision to life by delivering a cohesive and thoughtfully executed space that embodies tranquility and refinement while enhancing the GROUNDUP identity. Featuring quality joinery manufactured by our inhouse team, GROUNDUP Wellness is sure to be a hit with locals and workers in the growing DKSN Commercial & Residential Precinct.

Intermain’s Interior Design Approach

GROUNDUP Wellness greets visitors with an immediate sense of calm and sophistication. As they step off the lift, they encounter a custom-designed reception desk positioned directly in front of the elegant, arched glazing decals of the Reformer Studio frontage. These decals establish a light and airy atmosphere, setting the tone for the entire space. Beyond the double-glazed doors, natural light floods the studio through full-height perimeter glazing, offering panoramic views of the DKSN complex. This natural light is complemented by crisp, white exposed ceilings, which provide a modern contrast to the warmer, textured finishes found throughout the space.

Fluted timber cladding, finished in a muted pink French wash, wraps seamlessly around the lift area, change rooms, communal teapoint, and waiting lounge. This feature introduces warmth and intimacy, uniting the studio’s various areas with a distinctive aesthetic. The thoughtful integration of these finishes ensures that functionality and style coexist harmoniously.

Beyond the main studio lies the Wellness area, a dedicated retreat for recovery. This space features ice baths, saunas, showers, and a red-light therapy room, all enveloped in a dimmed, moodier ambiance that encourages relaxation. The darker aesthetic of the Wellness area creates a striking contrast to the lighter, open Reformer Studio, resulting in a distinct yet cohesive experience.

Challenges & Solutions

One of the significant challenges was integrating privacy into the sauna rooms while maintaining a seamless connection with the rest of the space. To address this, Intermain implemented thoughtful design solutions, such as constructing false walls to fully conceal windows or applying frosted film to obscure visibility without compromising natural light. These measures ensured the sauna rooms blended harmoniously with the overall design while serving their intended purpose.

Another challenge involved ensuring a natural transition between the bright, open Reformer Studio and the dimly lit Wellness area. Intermain achieved this through the use of cohesive materials and subtle design transitions that balanced the distinct atmospheres of these spaces. This approach maintained the design’s sense of unity while fulfilling the client’s vision for a multifunctional wellness destination.

The resulting wellness destination elevates the GROUNDUP brand, offering a sophisticated space that inspires relaxation and rejuvenation.
