Intermain HQ

126-136 Bourke Road Alexandria, NSW

Intermain's award-winning Sydney headquarters.

Our Sydney headquarters, delivered in collaboration with BVN, is the result of the integration of a contemporary workspace within our joinery factory, cleverly showcasing our craft, passion for sustainability, and expertise in workplace design.

Intermain, in partnership with BVN, is proud to present our 1,600sqm flagship headquarters in Alexandria, NSW. The project, a testament to collaborative innovation, involved our in-house design team working closely with BVN to create a space that resonates with Intermain’s ethos and brand identity. The headquarters features a robust base palette of timber, cork, and concrete, accented with block colours from our brand palette, crafting an environment that is both functional and visually striking.

BVN’s team ingeniously addressed the challenge of linking our joinery manufacturing facility with our office by designing a series of two-storey timber pods that extend into the workshop. These pods accommodate several meeting rooms, our joinery design studio, an interiors sample library, and a tool shed. They are clad in timber plywood sheets that were salvaged from landfill. This distinctive design is echoed in the custom reception desk, crafted from recycled offcuts from our in-house joinery factory, which welcomes you as soon as you enter our space. Throughout our workspace, the embodiment of our team’s skills is unmistakable, underscoring our dedication to sustainable practices and innovative design.

Ascending the grand staircase to the mezzanine level, you are greeted by a spacious town hall area. Down the hallway, a variety of collaborative spaces await, including boardrooms and both closed and casual meeting areas. These rooms are lined with cork, chosen for its acoustic and sustainable properties, and are equipped with the latest audio and video technology to facilitate seamless collaboration with our interstate offices and support remote working.

At Intermain, community and well-being are paramount. Our headquarters include an oversized kitchen breakout space and a sunlit terrace, providing our team with areas to relax and recharge. Impeccably finished end-of-trip facilities further enhance the workplace experience, ensuring comfort and convenience for all team members.

Intermain’s headquarters reflect the diverse aspects of the contemporary workplace, showcasing a clever relationship between our company’s work and the craftsmanship we produce. The project transcends a basic refurbishment, becoming a celebration of rudimentary materials and their re-use, achieving a sustainable outcome. This unexpected pairing of joinery workshop and traditional workplace creates a unique and engaging environment.

About the artwork

Intermain commissioned award-winning Kamilaroi/Gamilaraay artist Dennis Golding through Curatorial & Co to create a mural for our workplace. ‘Following The Pathways’  inspires a sense of connection to the landscape and empowers stories of first nations’ experiences.

Talented local Sydney artist Felix Saw helped brighten up our breakout space with this 6m long mural titled ‘Good to be back’. The artwork is a representation of the work we craft, and depicts a playful celebration of our return to the office post-Covid.
