Meet the 2025 Intermain Award Recipients at WSU

Championing the Next Generation of Construction Talent

This year, we’re proud to once again support the future of our industry through the Intermain Prize for Women in Building and Construction and the Intermain Prize in Building and Construction – Indigenous at Western Sydney University. These awards celebrate students who show outstanding resilience, ambition and commitment to a career in construction.

Congratulations to the inspiring recipients of 2025: Sawsan Radwan and Cooper Sullivan.

Intermain Prize for Women in Construction awarded to Sawsan Radwan

Sawsan, known affectionately as “Sauce,” is a Western Sydney local with Palestinian roots and big dreams. Her journey into construction wasn’t linear—from assembling IKEA furniture to pursuing a Services Engineering role, Sawsan’s path was shaped by curiosity and a determination to build a career with meaning.

“Receiving this award isn’t just about the achievement itself; it’s a reminder that the effort, late nights, and challenges were all worth it,” said Sawsan. “This award has made a huge difference—not just financially, but as a vote of confidence in my potential. I’m committed to working hard and making the most of this opportunity.”

Intermain Prize in Building and Construction – Indigenous awarded to Cooper Sullivan

From early site visits with his builder father to managing 4am starts as an apprentice carpenter, Cooper has always had construction in his blood. He’s currently studying a Bachelor of Construction Management while nearly completing his carpentry qualification—juggling TAFE, uni, and full-time work in a packed schedule that demands grit.

“This award reinforces all the hard work I’ve put into my studies and motivates me to keep pushing forward,” Cooper shared. “It’s not just a personal milestone, but something I hope inspires others in my community to pursue their dreams in construction too.”

We extend our thanks to Western Sydney University for their ongoing partnership, and to all the students who continue to pursue excellence in the face of challenges. It’s a privilege to play a small part in their journey. We’re excited to see where your careers take you, and we’ll be cheering from the sidelines every step of the way.
