2024 Australian Interior Design Awards: Intermain joint winner in Workplace Design

Intermain’s Sydney headquarters in Alexandria has been named joint winner in the Workplace Design category at the 2024 Australian Interior Design Awards (AIDA).

This innovative project, delivered in collaboration with BVN, reflects Intermain’s ethos and brand identity, showcased in a base palette of timber, cork, and concrete, highlighted by our brand’s block colours for a functional and visually striking environment.

BVN ingeniously linked our joinery manufacturing facility with our office using two-storey timber pods, which house meeting rooms, a joinery design studio, an interiors sample library, and a tool shed. These pods, clad in timber plywood salvaged from landfill, echo the distinctive design of our custom reception desk made from recycled offcuts from our joinery factory. This workspace highlights our team’s skills and commitment to sustainability and innovative design.

The award jury recognised Intermain HQ as a project that truly reflects the diverse aspects of the contemporary workplace, showcasing a clever relationship between our work and the craftsmanship we produce.
“The project goes beyond what could have been a basic refurbishment to become a celebration of rudimentary materials and the re-use of materiality to achieve a sustainable outcome. It is an unexpected pairing of workshop and traditional workplace that has created a very interesting union. Intermain promotes the re-use and recycling of materials, demonstrating how raw materials can be used in refined ways and how intelligent, robust design can create value in a project.” – AIDA Jury
