Keeping Sane with INTERMAIN

In an ever-changing climate, our teams are continually looking at ways to counteract the toll that social distancing may have on your mental health during a pandemic.

Our designers have shared their tips to successfully working from home while maintaining their sanity & serenity:

Stay Connected & Break-Away – Marion Schelling, Business Development Manager/Market Research

Not being around other people, it’s easy to get carried away and spend hours on end at your desk in the one spot. To increase productivity, remember to take regular breaks, just standing up with increase blood flow and improve your concentration.

It’s also vital in our current climate to continue to check in on people. Although we can’t be in the same room, we can be in the same virtual room! Look at different experiences you can share with friends, families and colleagues.

Maintaining a Routine – Jessica Marinic, National Design Director

Whatever it may be, create and maintain a routine at home. This might be having your morning coffee before sitting down at your desk or listening to Spotify’s Daily Drive.
Another tactic is even leaving the house in the morning before you start work (might be for a walk or just coffee) so when you return, it’s an illusion of walking into your workspace.

Noise Cancelling Headphone – Elizabeth Kirkland, Creative Director

I cannot stress how effective Noise Cancelling Headphones are for avoiding distractions. These WILL save your life, and maybe even your relationship!
There is nothing cute about seeing your partner in full work mode. My preference is the Bose Quiet Comfort’s:

Podcasts, Podcasts, Podcasts – Devon Mulligan, Designer

I find podcasts a great way to keep focused, especially during repetitive or administrative tasks. My favourites include:

Remote Meetings – Sophie Bennett, Senior Designer QLD

Create an agenda! No one likes a meeting that could have been an email, so make sure you use the best use of time.
Keep teams engaged by having discussion topics and keeping on track, this will help in maintaining a productive meeting and coming away with clear directions and actions needed.

Dress to Impress – Megan Rigden, Senior Designer NSW

Meetings may be conducted over video; however, this is the new norm and an opportunity for us to put our best foot forward.
Also dressing in your workwear and avoiding the temptation of staying in your PJs all day helps with changing your mindset and switching in to “work mode”.

What’s going on in the background? – Ashleigh Broady, Designer NSW

While we’re social distancing, Video Conferences are going to be as good as it gets when it comes to face to face meetings, so don’t be afraid to turn the camera on.
Remember to be conscious of your background (we’ve all seen those embarrassing videos online) feel free to download and use the INTERMAIN zoom background to avoid going viral for the wrong reason!

Good luck with your Working From Home experience and feel free to join the conversation by adding comments across our social pages!
